FilmSynk ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

FilmSynk collects minimal data necessary to provide the service:

• Display name: The name you enter when joining a session. This is shown to other participants in your group.
• Anonymous identifier: We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to create a random user ID. No email, phone number, or password is required.
• Swipe preferences: Your likes, dislikes, and super-likes within sessions are stored to provide smart recommendations and detect matches.
• Session data: Session codes, selected streaming providers, and match results are stored temporarily to enable group sessions.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

• Email addresses or passwords
• Location data
• Contacts or phone numbers
• Photos, camera, or microphone data
• Payment or financial information
• Advertising identifiers or tracking data

3. How We Use Your Data

• Providing the service: Your display name and swipe data are used to run group sessions and find matches.
• Improving recommendations: Your past swipe preferences help prioritize titles you're more likely to enjoy in future sessions.
• No advertising: We do not serve ads or share your data with advertisers.
• No selling: We never sell your data to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

FilmSynk uses the following third-party services:

• Firebase (Google): Authentication, database (Firestore), and cloud functions. Data is processed in accordance with Google's privacy policy.
• TMDB (The Movie Database): Movie and TV show information, posters, and streaming availability data. TMDB API calls are made server-side; no user data is sent to TMDB. See TMDB's privacy policy.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Firebase Firestore, which provides encryption at rest and in transit. Access to session data is protected by Firebase security rules that ensure only authenticated participants can access their own sessions.

6. Data Retention

Session data (titles, matches, swipes) is kept for the duration of the session and may persist afterward to improve future recommendations. Your anonymous user ID and swipe preferences are retained to provide a better experience across sessions.

7. Your Rights

You can:

• Use the app without providing any personal information (the display name can be a nickname)
• Request deletion of your data by contacting us at help@filmsynk.com
• Clear your local data by clearing browser storage or deleting the app

8. Children's Privacy

FilmSynk is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
